On Sunday September 25th Amazon, South University, and Fairmount Neighborhoods will come together to celebrate in the streets as part of the sixth annual Eugene Sunday Streets program! From Amazon Park, to University Park, to the businesses on 19th and Agate, the streets will be filled with walkers, rollers, cyclists, music, dancing, vending and more! Our first Sunday Streets Downtown this year was a huge success with over 6,000 participants making it the largest Sunday Streets to date! We hope to see the trend continue with this fun, free, family friendly event from noon to 4PM.
There will be traffic closures on Hilyard Street between 24th and 27th Avenues, 24th Avenue from Hilyard St. to Agate St. and Agate Street from 24th to 19th Ave. from approximately 10:30AM to 4:15PM. Motor vehicles will be allowed to cross the route/closed streets at Harris and 24th, Emerald and 24th, and Agate and 22nd. Volunteers will be at intersections assisting those who are driving. Motorists, including those who are heading to the Shopping Center at 24th and Hilyard, are encouraged to park in the Very Little Theatre parking lot on 24th and Hilyard (Northwest corner). All drivers are encouraged to give themselves extra time to deal with detours and short delays.
Near the Amazon Pool on Hilyard St. you can watch live performances and an interactive BMX clinic from Pro BMX rider Dave Nourie and get a free bicycle helmet, all while trying your skills at DJ yoga in the streets. University Park will feature three musical acts, and the ever popular dunk tank, and Washburne Park will host slacklining, tree climbing, gymnastics, live music and more! The schedule of events can be found on our website. Eugene Sunday Street events are an outreach of the Transportation Options Team of the City of Eugene, aimed at engaging the community and promoting active transportation and healthy lifestyle choices.
Volunteers are still needed to make this event come to life. The greatest need is for intersection superheroes who ensure that both foot and car traffic flows smoothly. They also serve as route cheerleaders and we encourage costumes and creativity as you cheer the participants along the route. Volunteer time for this event is not considered work time.
