At 11:37 a.m. today, officers were called to the northeast corner of 18th and Olive, after a woman had come home to find a man she didn’t know in her house. The woman promptly left her home and called police, who quickly responded to the scene.
The man tried to flee, but after he spotted officers, he crawled into a crawl space at the woman’s home. The suspect was defiant with officers and indicated a desire to harm them, throwing rocks and bricks at them.
Because of this, additional resources were brought to the scene to increase the safety of the response for all involved. Additional officers, a K9 unit was called, and crisis negotiators were brought in to help. Olive was shut down from 17th Avenue to 18th Avenue and 18th avenue from Olive to Willamette.
Just after 30 minutes, the man came out and was taken into custody. He was checked by medics, and will be taken to the Lane County Jail.
Charges and the suspect’s name are pending.
