North Eugene High School and Corridor Elementary School were both put on lockdown at 7:47 a.m. today after a parent received a text from what appeared to be from an adult, with a threat towards a student at North Eugene High School.
Eugene Police School Resource Team and Patrol responded. The schools were locked down initially, then were moved to a lock out. The schools were reopened at 1:30 p.m. today. After an investigation, it was determined the message came from outside the area and appears to be a hoax.
Lock Down is a response when the danger may be inside the school or closer, a more direct threat to the school. The school is secured with classrooms locked, lights out and students moved to places of security inside the building.
A Lock Out is when the perceived danger is outside of the school. The exterior is secured, no one is allowed in or out, but school activities continue as planned inside.
