North Eugene High School was put on lockdown at 7:47 a.m. today after a parent received a text from what appeared to be from an adult, with a threat towards a student at North Eugene High School. Eugene Police School Resource Team and Patrol responded. Yujin Gakuen Japanese Immersion Elementary School and Corridor Elementary Schools were placed on lock out, due to their proximity.
North Eugene High School also moved to lock out protocols after a time. The schools were reopened at 1:30 p.m. today. After an investigation, it was determined the message came from outside the area and appears to be a hoax. Lock Down is a response when the danger may be inside the school or closer, a more direct threat to the school. The school is secured with classrooms locked, lights out and students moved to places of security inside the building. A Lock Out is when the perceived danger is outside of the school. The exterior is secured, no one is allowed in or out, but school activities continue as planned inside.
