Did you know that on average a person who is arrested for drunk driving, will have already driver about 80 times before the first arrest. That’s a lot of risk to the public. Eugene Police will be starting DUII saturation patrols this weekend, and these patrols will extend through the holiday season.
To address the issue of DUII driving and to ensure enough officers are available to identify, stop and process impaired drivers, DUII patrols will be staffed above and beyond the normal strength through January 1. These patrols are staffed primarily with the help of funding from state grants, which last year led to 107 arrests directly related to the grant funding.
As most people are aware, there is also a University of Oregon football game this Saturday. Thousands of people will be traveling to and from the game on Saturday, and there will be several celebratory events surrounding the game throughout Eugene.
Please be courteous of other drivers and pedestrians, and always remember to be responsible and have a plan to get home safely if you anticipate celebrating in any festivities.
