Police Safely Take Shooter Into Custody in 5000 Block of W. 11th
At 5.37 p.m. today, police received a call regarding a man who was armed and suicidal. After police arrived on scene, the suspect shot one round from a hunting rifle in an unknown direction.
A modified SWAT response was quickly assembled, along with deployment of the armored rescue vehicle, Crisis Negotiation Team, Eugene Springfield Fire, and CAHOOTS. The man exited his trailer, shot another round from the rifle. He put the rifle down, went into the home and when he came back outside, he was headed back toward the rifle when police used less-than-lethal round to take him into custody. He was treated at the scene by medics. He will be lodged at the Lane County Jail on charges of Unlawful Use of a Weapon, Discharging a Firearm with the City Limits, and outstanding warrants.
Name of Arrested: John Joseph Pinckney, age 69 of Eugene.###
