[ARCHIVED] Eastbound Beltline crash sends one woman to hospital, kills her service dog

At 10:52 a.m. today, police and Eugene Springfield Fire EMS were called to the scene of a crash on eastbound Beltline near River Avenue. A purple 1996 Toyota SUV was travelling behind another unknown SUV, either gold or brown, in the fast lane of eastbound Beltline. The driver of the Toyota reported the SUV slammed on the brakes while in the fast lane, and the following Toyota swerved, lost control and hit the midian before flipping and coming to rest on its top. An unidentified resident of apartments nearby, who is also a wildland firefighter, responded across the highway to render aid. The driver of the other vehicle kept driving eastbound.
The female driver, Cindy Ehlers, age 57, of Eugene, was transported to a local hospital with non-lifethreatening injuries, but her service dog was killed in the crash.
If anyone has information about the crash, they are asked to call 541.682.5111.
