[ARCHIVED] Residential burglar captured in slough

A 29-year-old male homeowner in the south Eugene area arrived at his residence at 5:56 yesterday evening, June 4, only to find someone inside. The suspect, later identified as Clarence Ray Scharbough, age 38, fled the residence after the homeowner yelled and chase him out the back door.

Eugene Police units and a K9 team converged and began searching. Several community members flagged officers down to advise that Scharbough was attempting to get a ride from the area. After no individuals agreed to give Scharbough a ride, he jumped into the Amazon Slough near E. 19th Avenue and High Street. Scharbough was spotted in the slough until he reach Oak Street where he finally got tired and sat down.

Scharbough was taken into custody without further incident on charges of Burglary in the First Degree, Felon in Possession of a Restricted Weapon, Possession of Burglary Tools, and Warrants.
