The Eugene Police Department will partner with Oregon State Police and the Springfield Police Department to provide DUII saturation patrols throughout the weekend. People attending the KLCC Microbrew Festival, are encouraged to practice safety, be responsible and plan ahead.
If you are commuting throughout the area this weekend, it is important to take into consideration that additional people will be on the road due to the weekend’s events and that wet weather conditions are expected. Weather conditions pose a threat to all drivers, especially if someone is operating a vehicle impaired. Drivers who are impaired are not only risking harm to themselves, but anyone within their vicinity.
To address this issue and ensure enough officers are available to identify, stop and process impaired drivers, DUII patrols will be staffed above and beyond the normal strength for this time of year, largely with the help of funding from state grants. In January, there were 15 DUII arrests alone from the dedicated patrols. In addition to the combined patrols taking place this weekend, the Eugene Police Department, with help from the state grants, will have extra DUII patrols throughout the entire month of February.
