February 21, at approximately 12:48 p.m., police responded to the report of a hit and run crash at the Burger King on 15 Division Avenue. During the investigation, officers received information that the suspect, Reid Stephen Brown, age 63, of Eugene, drove his car into the rear of the involved subject’s SUV. The female subject got out of her vehicle to make contact with Brown, and then observed Brown striking her vehicle again and pushing it forward several feet until it was out of the drive-thru lane. Brown then fled the scene in his vehicle, and officers found a vehicle matching the license plate and description, parked at his residence on the 2600 block of Carbona, slumped over and apparently sleeping. Brown was arrested for DUII, and Hit and Run – Property Damage, and transported to the Lane County Jail.
February 19 at 4:23 a.m. this morning, a police officer spotted a reckless driver in the area of 12th and Garfield. As the officer began to follow it, the vehicle, a 1998 green Ford Ranger stopped abruptly in the roadway and the driver quickly got out and pointed his hand with his finger out resembling a gun at the officer, telling the officer to shoot him. The driver continued to advance, telling the officer that he would have to kill him. Officers were able to subdue the man, even though the situation was intense. The driver, Mark William Snyder, 42,was arrested for Disorderly Conduct in the Second Degree, Interfering with a Peace Officer and Reckless Driving, and transported to the Lane County Jail.
February 19, at 3:34 a.m. A man in his 40s stabbed himself outside of Buckley House. Officers arrived and the subject dropped the knife and was transported by medics to the hospital. Incident number 15-039535
On February 18, at 2:11 p.m., officers were dispatched to report of a shoplifter at Hirons, 1950 Franklin Blvd. The loss prevention employee reported Danielle Larae Hewitt, age 43, of Sweet Home, had put items in a basket from an outside display stand, put the basket down and walked intothe store, paying for one item. Loss prevention reported she then walked outside the store, picked up the basket and walked to PC Market of Choice, entered and paid for two items before exiting. When the employee confronted Hewitt, she complained of a medical emergency and fell to the gound. Medics reponded. Hewitt was transported to a hospital for evaluation after providing a false name for herself. While searching for her ID, police found heroin and also found that her name was Danielle Hewitt and there were warrants for her arrest. When police went to the hospital, she continued to provide a false name. After the hospital released her, she was arrested for Theft in the Second Degree, two counts of False Information to Police Officer, Unlawful Possession of Heroin, and the warrants, and taken to the Lane County Jail. 15-2789
On February 18 at 11:01 p.m., a 16-year-old male was walking with two others when he observed Scott Brian Hobday, age 51, of Eugene, near Hwy. 99/Richard. The 16-year-old asked the man to purchase cigarettes for him and told the older man that he could keep the change from the purchase. There was a fight between the two. The 16-year-old and Hobday were both cited in lieu of custody for Disorderly Conduct. 15-02804
2815 Chad Drive, Case number 15-2791 – On February 18, at 4:32 p.m., Eugene Police were dispatched to a possible robbery that had just occurred, with the male suspect potentially armed with a knife. Security tried to stop two shoplifters, a male, later identified as Kalin Donovan Howard, age 33, of Eugene, and a female later identified as Amber Christina Webster (AKA Johnson), age 31, of Eugene, after they walked outside with merchandise they hadn’t paid for. The mjale tried to divert attention away from the female as she went toward their vehicle in the parking lot. Two security officers followed the female to her vehicle and security officer tried to write down the license plate, when Howard came up to him and got in his face and then pushed the security guard back and away from the vehicle. The female got away in the vehicle and Howard feld on foot. Security continued to follow the male shoplifter, A police officer intervened and arrested Howard after a struggle. Howard had outstanding nwarrants from Springfield Police for Theft in the Second Degree and from Eugene Police for Theft in the Third Degree. Howard was lodged at the Lane County Jail on his listed warrants as well as Robbery in the Second Degree and Theft in the Second Degree. An officer found Johnson and her vehicle near the 89000 block of Sprague Road, driving eastbound through a field. The female ran from the car into bushes and was taken into custody. , who was arrested for Robbery in the Second Degree, and two counts of Theft in the Second Degree related to Case 15-02681, which occurred on February 15 at 5 p.m., at Shopko , 2815 Chad Drive. In that case, a male and female left without paying for items.
On February 18 at 9:14 p.m., 4500 Block of Spring Meadow Avenue and Redrock Way, Officers were dispatched to a single-vehicle crash. Dispatch was advising the vehicle, a Nissan Xterra, was on its side with the driver possibly entrapped. Stephen James France, 40, of Eugene, was still in the vehicle. A bystander helped him out of the Xterra. He declined medics. He was arrested for DUII, Reckless Driving and Criminal Mischief. The vehicle damaged a retaining wall, a front lawn and trees. The arrested was polite and cooperative. Case #15-02799
February 16, at approximately 7:11 p.m., police responded to a dispute inside a parked van on Oak Street, between East 28th and East 29th Ave, and arrested Megan Marie Mcowen, age 25, and Shawn Lee Calloway, age 39, both for warrants.
February 16, police responded to the Buckley House at 605 W. 4th Avenue, and contacted Joseph Dale Grass, age 39, of Eugene, who was transported to the location by CAHOOTS, and verbally threatening a CAHOOTS employee. When officers arrived, they observed the behavior and arrested Grass for Disorderly Conduct and Harassment and transported him to the Lane County Jail.
February 10, at approximately 1:11 a.m., police responded to the 100 block of Adams Street for a report of an assault involving two neighbors. When police arrived, they contacted the involved subjects and received information that the suspect, Mark Jeffrey Byers, age 36, invited the 55-year-old male victim to come outside. The victim at first refused, and when he did come out, Byers continually hit the victim in the face. When the victim tried to push Byers away, Byers bit the victim’s finger. Medics responded to evaluate the victim, and he was transported to the hospital by CAHOOTS. Byers was transported to the Lane County Jail and charged with Assault.
February 3, 2015, Eugene Police arrested Marlon Jerome Smith, age 26, of Springfield, in connection with a car-jacking committed December 23, 2014 in the 1300 block of Mill in downtown Eugene. At the time of his arrest, Smith was being released from the Springfield Jail following an unrelated arrest for an assault which occurred December 29, 2014 in Springfield. During the assault investigation, Smith was connected to the car-jacking and later developed as a suspect. Following further investigation of the robbery, Smith was transported from the Springfield Jail to the Lane County Jail and lodged on Robbery I and Unlawful Use of a Weapon.
February 3 at approximately 8:07 p.m., police responded to the Delta Bar on Green Acres Road regarding a fight. When officers arrived, they received information that the suspect, Peter Sterrett Irvin, age 49, of Eugene, was asked to leave the bar after making inappropriate comments towards other patrons. After being asked to leave, Irvin was observed pulling an object from his pocket and was then tackled to the ground by a patron while another patron removed the blunt object from the suspect's hand and gave it to an employee. Irvin was arrested for Disorderly Conduct and Carrying a Concealed Weapon and transported to the Lane County Jail. During the arrest, officers found a knife on Irvin, and added an additional charge of Carrying a Concealed Weapon.
February 2, around 5:30 p.m., police responded to the storage units at the corner of W. 2nd Avenue and Polk Street for a reported assault. When officers arrived, they contacted the 56-year-old male victim, who had blood on his face from a cut and bloody nose. Officers received information that the victim had contacted the suspect, Leon Duane Thomason, age 53, about an issue that was ongoing between them. The confrontation between both involved subjects became physical and the suspect subsequently swung at the victim, and hit him repeatedly, until a third party was able to pull the suspect away. The victim was transported by CAHOOTS to the hospital, and Thomason was cited for Assault.
