[ARCHIVED] Man Arrested for DUII After Motorists Call 9-1-1

Man Arrested for DUII After Other Motorists Call 9-1-1
Case Number 15-01483

Last night, January 27, at 11:06 p.m., motorists began calling 9-1-1 to report a reckless, possibly DUII driver, who was speeding, swerving into oncoming traffic and running other vehicles off the road. West 11th Walmart employees also called in to report the driver stumbling before he got into his 1990 Chevy Suburban, that he almost ran over two customers in the parking lot and then drove onto W. 11th, driving over the median.

Eugene Police officers responded to locate the driver and spotted him as he drove by near Roosevelt and Maple. An officer immediately initiated a traffic stop, due to the dangerous and erratic driving. The driver, Kelsey J Barbion, age 37, of Springfield failed to yield to the officer. The officer tried to forcefully stop the vehicle, but it didn’t take and the patrol vehicle sustained minor damage.

Barbion drove away, continuing north on Hwy. 99, where he lost control and crashed just north of Royal Avenue. He had to be extricated from the vehicle and was transported to a local hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

Barbion was charged with DUII, Reckless Driving, Elude, and Driving While Suspended Misdemeanor. The patrol vehicle sustained minor damage.
