Eugene Recreation's Outdoor program at the River House offers trips in December and January to teach you how to snowshoe. Professional guide and naturalist Dave Walp leads the trips on Saturday, Dec. 13, and again on Saturday, Jan. 17. Participants must be 16 years or older and able to hike 3-5 miles on an uneven terrain.
These trips focus on having fun while practicing back-country skills and winter safety. Rent or bring your own equipment. A mandatory pre-trip meeting will be held the Wednesday prior to each trip, 7-9 p.m. at the River House, 301 N. Adams St. The cost of each trip is $45 and includes transportation and leadership. For more information on trips, call Roger at 541-682-5329.
Adults age 50 and older are invited to Try Snowshoeing! First, attend a classroom meeting to learn about clothing and equipment on Dec. 15, 5:30-6:30 p.m. at the River House. Then, on Dec. 17, you’ll head to the mountains for a 2-3 hour practice session with experienced guides. The cost of this trip is $45 and includes transportation and leadership. For more information on this trip, call Tom 541-682-5318.
