Registration is now open at eweb.org/runtostaywarm for Eugene’s fall running tradition, Run to Stay Warm. This family-friendly event on Sunday, Nov. 23, welcomes all levels, from novice runners and walkers to elite athletes. Run to Stay Warm is a benefit for Eugene Water & Electric Board’s (EWEB) Customer Care Program, which assists income-eligible families in paying their electric bills. To date, the event has raised more than $115,000 for Customer Care.
Run or walk the half-marathon, 5K or 10K; kids can run the free 400-meter dash led by Sluggo, the Eugene Emeralds mascot. The various courses along the Willamette River begin and end at the River Edge Plaza adjacent to EWEB headquarters, allowing participants to explore Prefontaine's old stomping grounds while helping a worthy cause.
An after-party will be held at the Tap and Growler, where participants will be treated to a soft pretzel and a pint of Claim 52 beer (or non-alcoholic beverage of choice). Want to help out but don’t want to get up early to run? Contribute with a "Sleep in to Stay Warm" donation to the Customer Care program. To donate, contact EWEB Customer Service at 541-685-7000, and feel free to sleep in on Sunday morning. One-time donations are always an option on a monthly EWEB bill.
