[ARCHIVED] Barricaded Suspect Safely Taken into Custody

Suspect Safely Taken into Custody on Felony Charges
Case 14-14104

A suspect in a dispute barricaded himself inside his apartment after police responded to call for service in the 1300 block of Charnelton at approximately 6:04 this evening. Kevin Scott Eckhardt, age 36, was taken safely into custody at around 10:30 p.m. after Crisis Negotiation Team and SWAT joined patrol officers at the location. A child, who was with him, was safe throughout the incident and is now with another family member.

Eckhardt was charged with Burglary in the First Degree, Assault in the Fourth Degree, and Strangulation.

During the police response, Community Emergency Notification System was used to alert residents in immediate proximity to stay inside as a precaution. The public was asked to avoid the area at 13th from Lincoln to Willamette and at Charnelton from 12th to 13th. During the police activity, a female breeched the police line and was arrested for Interfering.

A second CENS notification was sent to let residents in the area know the incident was resolved. ###
