This summer's the warmer-than-usual weather has made Amazon Pool THE place to be to cool off. But that’s just one of the benefits it offers. It’s also a great place to for a workout, whether you are counting laps or number of times down the curly slide! And if you’re hungry after expending all that energy, you can rest assured that you’ll get a healthy meal from the pool’s food vendor, Ume Grill.
First and foremost, Amazon pool is a place to have fun. Twice-daily recreation swims offer multiple pools, two water slides, a hot tub, a 3-meter diving board, and for the fearless: a 9-meter diving platform. The pool’s capacity is right around 1,000 people, and that number is regularly reached on hot days.
In addition to play time, there is plenty of opportunity to get a good workout at Amazon by swimming laps, participating in a water aerobics class, or just swimming around with the kids during a recreational swim. For the first time this summer, Amazon staff taught a triathlon preparation class, and the pool was the site for Eugene's First coed water volleyball league.
You'll be hungry after expending all that energy, so get a healthy meal from the pool’s food vendor, Ume Grill. Most parks and recreation vendors depend on prepackaged, processed food items that are usually high in calories and short on nutrition. But Ume Grill, now in his second year at Amazon serves made-to-order, nutritious - and more importantly - delicious hot meals. Owner Rayon Tanaka says, “We offer a variety of fresh, tasty and healthy choices that are reasonably priced.” In response to customer suggestions last year, they’ve made some changes to this year’s menu. As a result, Tanaka says, “Now, there is something for everyone on our menu.” And you don’t have to be inside Amazon’s fence to order from Ume Grill. There is a convenient curb-side window up the Hilyard street side for take-out orders.
