[ARCHIVED] Safety Town - Opening Ceremonies

Over 120 pre-kindergarteners are participating in the Safety Town child safety program that kicks off MONDAY. Children will learn over 20 safety topics throughout the two-week long camp.
Monday will begin with an “opening ceremony,” where Chief Kerns will welcome the children. After the ceremony children will have a chance to learn about pedestrian and traffic safety, meet a police officer and learn about the tools and uniform, crawl through a police car, and sit on a police motorcycle. They will also have fun getting to know their new camp “counselors”-- twenty-four local teens that volunteer over 80 hours each to help at the camp.

Safety Town is an incredible two-week comprehensive educational program that introduces 5-year-olds to safety awareness. This year’s program is being sponsored by Allstate Insurance, AAA of Oregon, BiMart, The Wilsey Family and many other generous companies and individuals.
