At around 10 p.m. yesterday, Matthew Curtis Bossard, age 32, and Leticia K. Kagele, age 36, were refused service at Whirled Pies, 1123 Monroe, because they were intoxicated. After they left, employees locked the door to the business. Bossard and Kagele returned and Bossard began pounding on the front door, which generated a 9-1-1 call from frightened employees inside. Before police arrived, Bossard broke the glass out of the front door and forced entry to the building. Employees had moved into the basement and could hear both suspects inside the restaurant. The suspects removed a curtain from the broken window and used it as a type of wick to light some homemade “moonshine” they had been carrying. The liquid was set ablaze and was thrown into the business. Police arrived and arrested the pair.
