January 30
A short time before midnight, Wednesday, an officer responded to an apartment at the 2000 block of Goodpasture Loop regarding a vehicle theft. Jesse David De Lay, age 35, was located walking in the area, and the officer developed information to arrest him for Unauthorized Entry of a Motor Vehicle. Further follow-up revealed that the vehicle had been stolen from Darlene Lane. De Lay possessed several other possibly stolen items, including a replica BB gun in a shoulder holster, a badge, and a spring-loaded knife. He was arrested for Unauthorized Use of a Vehicle, Unauthorized Entry of a Vehicle, Possession of a Stolen Vehicle, Felon in Possession of a Restricted Weapon, and Criminal Mischief 2.
January 29
An officer was patrolling the area of West 11th and Oakpatch, Wednesday, after 4 p.m., when he noticed two suspicious men in front of the Dari Mart. The officer surveyed the store, which was receiving a milk delivery, and watched one of the subjects wait for the driver to enter inside his truck. The male subject then entered the store through an open rear door, grabbed a case of beer, and walked out. The officer questioned the subject, Matthew Scott Baker, age 45, and arrested him for Burglary 2.
January 28
Shortly before 7 a.m. Monday, a hotel on 6th Avenue called to report an unknown male that would not exit the bathroom and was heard coughing and groaning. The particular bathroom is designated for hotel residents and guests only, and access to it is only possible through the hotel or by jumping over a fence. Officers showed up and knocked on the door and the suspect came out, but only after the officers made it known that they were police officers. Dustin James Shannon, age 18, was taken into custody, and was found to possess methamphetamines and other various pieces of property. He was arrested for Possession of Methamphetamine, Criminal Trespass 2, and Theft 1. The arrest led to the identification of six ‘theft from vehicle’ victims, only one of which was reported.
January 25
At approximately 3 a.m. Saturday, officers were dispatched to the Nile Gentlemen’s Club regarding a motor vehicle crash. Staff at the Nile called regarding three males, who were denied entrance due to their level of intoxication. Frankie White Jr., age 25, got into a red SUV and attempted to speed out of the parking lot but instead crashed through the fence and into the storage units next door. Officers responded quickly and were able to identify White, and contact him. White was uncooperative at first, but was quickly placed into handcuffs by two officers, without incident, and arrested for DUII, Reckless Driving, Reckless Endangering, and Criminal Mischief 2.
January 24
At approximately 6 p.m. Friday, an officer observed a group of teenagers walking eastbound on Willakenzie Road and attempted to stop one of the teenagers whom he knew had a warrant. When the officer got out of his vehicle, the juvenile turned and began to walk away, and the officer told him to stop because he was under arrest. The juvenile began to run and followed by the officer for nearly a quarter-mile when two citizens assisted the officer by stopping the juvenile and holding him down until the officer could place him into handcuffs. He was arrested for Escape 3, Possession of Burglary tools, and a Warrant.
January 22
Shortly before 11 p.m., Wednesday evening, Officers responded to the 7-11 on East Broadway regarding an assault. The victim reported that James Paul Hardin, age 58, had been trespassed from the location the week before due to his behavior, but returned today. An employee attempted to escort Hardin from the store, but was then struck by Hardin with a dust pan. Hardin was arrested for Assault.
January 21
At approximately 10 p.m. Sunday, Officers received a call about a suspicious person at Albertson’s on 18th Avenue and Chambers. An officer observed a vehicle associated with the person near 16th Avenue and Polk Street. The driver, Nathan Lee Vanschoonhoven, age 34, was contacted in the parking lot of an apartment complex. Vanschoonhoven attempted to drive away, but instead drove into an area in the complex without an exit, and when he came back the other way, two officers awaited him, and took him into custody for Interfering with a Peace Officer, Reckless Endangering, Possession of Meth and Eluding by Vehicle, and Felon in Possession of a Restricted Weapon.
January 18
At 1 a.m. Saturday morning, an officer was conducting a patrol check at the 4000 block of Cascade when he located Christopher Eriq Phister, age 27, who was riding his bike in the neighborhood without a light. Phister initially gave a false name to the officer, but when the officer continued to question him, he took-off running, and hid inside a location on the same block in the area where he was first spotted. Occupants at the address convinced Phister to surrender, which he did, and was taken into custody without incident for Warrants, Interfering with Police, and Escape.
January 16
Early this morning, officers responded to the Motel 66 in regards to a disorderly subject, Joshua John Derrick, age 24, tearing-up the room. While en-route, officers received information that Derrick had a warrant for his arrest. When officers arrived, Derrick initially opened the door, but when officers asked to come inside, he attempted to close it, then fled to the bathroom and locked himself inside. One of the officers was able to persuade Derrick to come out, but when they made a move to place handcuffs on him, he did not comply. Four officers and a deputy struggled with Derrick as he kicked and attempted to grab equipment off the deputy’s belt. A taser was eventually used to take Derrick into custody, and he was transported to the hospital for evaluation prior to being lodged at the jail for Criminal Mischief II, Theft II Warrants, and Resisting Arrest.
January 15
Officers responded to the 2600 block of Ross Lane regarding a dispute. The first officer to arrive at the scene approached and made contact with the suspect, Susanne Julia Harrelson, age 40, and was informed by one of the involved subjects that Harrelson had a gun. Harrelson denied having a gun, but her behavior made the officer suspicious, and she was ordered to put her hands up. Harrelson at first complied, but then dropped her hands to her waist and started reaching under her coat. The officer closed the distance between them and continued to give orders, as bystanders watched nearby. She then complied, and she was arrested for Unlawful Possession of a Firearm.
January 13
An officer observed a suspicious vehicle in the area of Highway 99 and Roosevelt Boulevard. He followed the vehicle to the 3200 block of Corally Lane, and attempted to conduct a traffic stop. The vehicle then attempted to drive away, but turned northbound in the cul-de-sac of Corally Lane. The vehicle pulled into the driveway of a resident and began to rev the engine as to attempt to reverse and flee the area. The officer quickly pinned the vehicle. Other officers arrived on scene and the driver of the vehicle, Christopher Luke Cherrier, age 26, was taken into custody for Unauthorized Use of Vehicle, Possession of Burglary tools, and Possession of a stolen vehicle.
An officer was on his way to Junction City when he stopped at the Chevron for a soda. The inside-clerk informed the officer of a possible drug deal in-progress taking place in a truck parked behind the store. When the officer went to investigate, the truck attempted to leave but the officer initiated a traffic stop. It was discovered that the truck, a new 2014 F-250 diesel, was stolen from Lithia in Roseburg, and meth and a large sum of money were found inside. Both suspects, Leroy Raymond Jr. Brabec, age 37, and Jerememy Lyndon-James, age 22, were arrested for Possession of a Controlled Substance-Meth. Brabec was also arrested for Unauthorized Use of Vehicle, and Possession of a Stolen Vehicle.
January 10
An officer investigated a shoplift-turned robbery at Walmart on West 11th Avenue. Security footage was obtained of suspect, John William Tiedke, age 38, but his identity was unknown to officers at the time, which prompted the distribution of a photograph of him for possible identification. Two officers who were on patrol downtown, happened to stop Tiedke for an unrelated matter, and one of the officers immediately recognized him from the photo. Tiedke was arrested for Robbery III.
January 9
At approximately 1:30 a.m., an Isuzu Rodeo, driven by Dana Catherine Getchell, age 25, crashed into a traffic signal pole, dismantling the pole and causing a closure of the intersection at East Broadway and Mill Street. Getchell was traveling from the downtown area, and was transported to the hospital following the crash. She was Cited in Lieu of Custody for Criminal Mischief II, DUII, and Reckless Driving.
January 8, 2014
Officers were dispatched to Craftsman Way regarding a possible robbery that involved a gun. The suspects left the scene and traveled northbound on Coburg Road in a green Ford F150 truck, where they were spotted near the eastbound lane of Beltline highway. Additional officers responded and the truck was stopped. All four occupants were taken into custody and transported to police headquarters. After the situation dissipated, a very in-depth investigation ensued.
Background: Erik Paul Olson, age 37, had his cell phone stolen from him a few weeks ago and he received information that it was at a resident’s home on Craftsman Way. Sarah Dawn Hodge, age 34, dressed up in black, put on a black baklava, and went to the location with the three other subjects in the Ford truck. Once at the location, the four subjects created commotion in front of the home by revving the engine of the truck and spinning-out to get the attention of the occupants inside the home. The homeowner and his friends exited the house into the front yard and were confronted by the four subjects exiting the vehicle. The homeowner’s friend threw a punch at one of the subjects and was then confronted by Hodge, who threw a punch, pushed him up against a fence and squeezed his neck. Hodge then saw the victim come out of the home with a semi-automatic rifle, ran over to him and grabbed it. Officers found the four subjects a short time later with the loaded rifle in the backseat of the Ford and they were taken into custody. Arrested was Sarah Dawn Hodge, age 34, on charges of Robbery in the Third Degree, and Assault in the Fourth Degree. Erik Paul Olson, age 37, was cited in lieu of custody for Assault in the Fourth Degree.
