Our Conversations Begin Around the Table - Magazines and Newspapers Room, 2nd floor, through February
Enjoy a show titled "Our Conversations Begin Around the Table" by the local artists of Out of Our Minds on display in the Magazines and Newspapers Room on the Downtown Library's second floor. Included are works by Sally Schwader, Satoko Motouji, Heather Halpern, Marijo Taylor, Rebecca Mannheimer, Rogene Manas, Ann Hamilton, Karen Pidgeon and Dee Etzwiler.
Out of Our Minds is a guild of 17 professional women artists living in Eugene, Oregon. They share that "We create across a wide range of disciplines, yet we share a common thread: a respect for the artistic process and the desire to support and encourage one another’s unique paths and visions. Our founders began meeting up to counter-balance the sense of isolation that many artists feel because they work alone. Since 2014, our group has been meeting monthly, usually at one of our homes where we check in about work in progress and exchange information. We also use our meeting times to visit studio spaces, attend lectures and support community arts events."
Suddenly Sleepy - Children's Center, 1st floor, through March
Enjoy colorful art from the Platinum Award winning children's book "Little Big Bear" by local creators Andre Royal and Andre Royal Jr. This fun story teaches children about the importance of healthy sleep habits through the tale of a bear who falls asleep while playing a game of hide and seek.
Andre Royal is the founder of Suddenly Sleepy, a nonprofit advocating for the importance of quality sleep. Each year in March, in conjunction with the time change, the organization hosts a 5K race at Alton Baker Park to raise awareness and support resources for sleep hygiene as a wellness and quality of life / human rights issue.
