Writing Workshop: Diverse Characters

Tuesday, February 28, 2023

Diane Nadeau leads a workshop about creating diverse characters with integrity.

Join author and Equity-informed Mediator Diana Nadeau for a writing workshop on "Creating Diverse Characters with Integrity."

Says Nadeau, "Character development is key to great writing. And honoring diversity is key to life. So, how do we put the two together and enter into creating characters that represent diverse communities with integrity and without causing harm to those very same community members?  We do it with an understanding of social location, individual experiences and cultural humility. " Nadeau will share guidance for "creating diverse characters as informed, respectful and integrous authors."

Diana Nadeau (she/they) is experienced with writing, mediation, facilitation, consultation and training within the frame of equity and inclusion. With lived experience as a non-binary, neurodivergent, Arab-American,  they are the author of two award-winning children’s picture books and currently working on two books for adult audiences. Nadeau relies on an extensive background in cultural competence when writing, bringing knowledge and lived experience to cutting edge social issues, and working  to assist in decolonization and degenderization efforts.

This event will be held in person at the Downtown Library. To join by Zoom instead, register in advance here.

The Eugene chapter of Willamette Writers holds a workshop or presentation at the Downtown Library on the fourth Tuesday of each month at 6:00 p.m. from September through May, except for December.
