Writing Workshop: First Page Critiques
Tuesday, January 24, 2023
Willamette Writers presents a participatory workshop about the crucial first page of a story.
The first page of your story is vital. It must capture your reader’s attention -- whether that’s a prospective agent, editor or book buyer. Those first few lines, sentences and paragraphs do some heavy lifting. Not only do they have to be engaging, they need to set the tone, setting, and pace, while introducing key characters and offering a taste of your writing style. They tell a reader if they want to continue reading.
Learn all about first pages at an interactive presentation by the Eugene chapter of Willamette Writers. To receive a roundtable critique, submit a first page here by Jan. 16.
This event will be held in person at the Downtown Library. To join by Zoom instead, register in advance here.
Willamette Writers holds a workshop or presentation at the Downtown Library on the fourth Tuesday of each month at 6:00 p.m. from September through May, except for December.
