It's one of the most popular, influential, and innovative hip-hop albums of this young century, "Donuts" is a dizzying mix of found samples, chopped-up snippets of obscure 70s soul records, and old commercials. While some label it simply as instrumental hip-hop, others consider it a form of "sound sculpture." 

Dilla famously recorded it while laying on a hospital bed, using a stripped-down home studio set-up and a crate of his favorite records. It was released on his 32nd birthday, three days before his death.
