This month’s Windfall Reading features writers Melissa Hart and Cindy Williams Gutiérrez as part of More Voices, a Lane Literary Guild project promoting multicultural approaches to the literary arts.
Melissa Hart is the author of the middle-grade novel “Avenging the Owl” and the memoirs “Wild Within: How Rescuing Owls Inspired a Family” and “Gringa: A Contradictory Girlhood.” She is a contributing editor at The Writer Magazine, and her essays have appeared in The Washington Post, The Boston Globe, The Los Angeles Times, Hemispheres, The Advocate, The Chronicle of Higher Education, Orion, and numerous other publications. She is a co-founder of Creator & Collector Services, which provides support to writers and artists.
Poet-dramatist Cindy Williams Gutiérrez was awarded the inaugural Oregon Literary Fellowship for Writers of Color in 2016 and was selected by Poets & Writers Magazine as a 2014 Notable Debut Poet. Her poetry collection, “the small claim of bones” placed second in the 2015 International Latino Book Awards. Her poems have appeared in Borderlands: Texas Poetry Review, Harvard’s Journal of Feminist Studies in Religion, Portland Review, UNAM’s Periódico de poesía, and in the anthology “Basta: 100+ Latinas Against Gender Violence.
