Weekly Recap - October 9, 2017

Posted on October 9, 2017 at 11:25 AM by Elena Domingo

With no Council meetings the first week of the month, I took advantage of that time to move forward on two immediate issues.

First, we convened the first meeting of the Naming Committee formed to discuss and recommend to Council whether or not to officially change the name of Broadway Plaza to Kesey Square.  As the paper reported, the expected fault lines in our community appeared.  I have encouraged committee members to honor differing perspectives and consider that Eugene has a motto: A great city for art and the outdoors. They meet again today, Monday, and I expect a recommendation to emerge. If not, we’ll schedule a third meeting.

Second, I began to review the applications of 54 people interested in serving in the seven seats on the “River Guides” advisory group to the Riverfront Renewal District.  The good news is that we will have a skilled, well-informed committee no matter who I select.  It is a strong, impressive assembly of candidates.  The bad news is that I have to pick only seven.  My final selections will be decided by Monday, the 16th.
