Over the past year, we have been working with Project for Public Spaces (PPS) on developing a vision for revitalizing downtown public spaces including the Park Blocks, the Plaza at the Hult Center, Broadway Plaza (Kesey Square), and the Library Plaza. PPS is an internationally known non-profit that has a long history of helping communities transform public spaces into vital places that highlight local assets, spur rejuvenation and serve common needs.
PPS’s final recommendations have arrived! Their report "Placemaking in Eugene
" incorporates the ideas, concerns and comments from more than 2,000 community members in a new vision for downtown. Their recommendations for bold action include a three-pronged approach of safety and social services, activation (particularly with attractive events for families) and physical improvements.
These recommendations have guided our plans for downtown this summer and beyond. We are excited to share this report with you and invite you to join us in making downtown more vibrant, safe and welcoming for everyone.
