Spend the summer like an Olympian at Amazon Pool, the only 50 meter outdoor pool in Eugene! Amazon Pool opens for long course lap swimming on May 23 and has a lane for you no matter your skill level.
Swimming is one of the best full-body workouts you can do. It is both a cardio and strength training exercise and minimally impacts your joints thanks to the water offering both resistance and buoyant support.
50 meter long course swimming is also known as Olympic distance. It's what you'll be watching this summer when athletes compete in Brazil. Preferring long course is a matter of personal choice. With fewer turns, it can be more meditative and challenging alike. If you are used to swimming short course, expect that your times may be a little slower across the same distance.
If you’re interested in developing a lap swimming routine, you should be aware of some general pool etiquette. Rob Guthrie, Amazon Pool manager, has three tips:

Monday - Friday 5:30 - 8:30 AM
Every day 11 AM - 2 PM
Monday - Friday 5:30 - 7:30 PM
May 30: Holiday schedule, lap swim 11 AM - 2 PM
June 3-4: Evening lap swim will be short course
June 5: Closed for staff training
June 10-12: Closed after 2PM on June 10 for swim meet
June 16: Lunch lap swim will be short course
June 17: Free Summer Kick Off event, short course lap swim will be available from 3 - 7 PM.
