About the Eugene SWAT Team
Eugene’s SWAT team is one of the oldest teams in the state (originating in the early 70s). Each member of the team is a specialist selected, trained and equipped to resolve high-risk tactical problems. Every highly trained member has primary assignments within the department and come together for training and operations often in a moment’s notice.
Team members are required to pass vigorous physical requirements and attend regular specialized training, including building entry, officer hostage rescues, weaponry and less-lethal munitions, marksmanship and operations of specialty equipment. Each member of this unit is on call 24 hours a day, 365 days a year. The unit includes one Lieutenant, two Sergeants and 22 sworn officers.
SWAT Response
The team responds to several categories of tactical situations including:
- Barricaded person situations
- Covert and undercover tactical operations
- High-risk warrant service operations
- Hostage situations
- Sniper-counter Sniper situations
