As member of a fire suppression and life safety crew, you respond to a wide range of emergencies such as fires, medical emergencies, rescues, and other incidents. Firefighters often work shifts in 24-hour blocks, where they live in a station with their crew members while on duty and work on either a fire engine or ambulance.


Examples of duties performed:

  • Respond to and extinguish fires in a variety of different structures and terrain.
  • Care and transport of patients experiencing a variety of medical emergencies.
  • Special teams trained in Hazardous Materials, Airport Rescue Firefighting, Water Rescue, and Technical Rescue can assist with calls for specialized rescue.
