Natural History in the West Eugene Wetlands

The Eugene area is replete with a wide variety of ecosystems, soil types, plants, animals, and fungi. Nowhere else is the abundance and variety more evident than in the West Eugene Wetlands and surrounding uplands. More than 200 species of birds, nearly 50 species of butterflies, and dozens of species of dragonflies and damselflies flit or soar through the air around us. Trees, shrubs, forbs, and fungi provide food, shelter, and nesting areas. All combine to make the Eugene area truly one of the best places in the world to enjoy the great outdoors.
