In The Now Pandemic Days

Digital Video

About the artist

I am a visual artist. I work in digital media. After years of creating hard copy art, I am enlivened moving into digital as my expressive avenue. Using manipulated images and video, I tell stories. I pull from personal experience, sharing what happens in my life, inside and out. I think of my art as a bridge that is a multi-layered narrative. The bridge allows access to a deeper understanding of our shared humanity. The manipulation and embellishments assist the visual language successfully open another human’s door.

“In The Now” evolved from impulse. I began documenting my days on March 13, 2020 as Oregon and my country went into pandemic lockdown. For eighty days I turned my camera toward myself, trusting my artistic instinct, not knowing what I was going to do with the daily journal. I just knew I had to do it. The act of videoing everyday was, as is life, interesting, affirming, full of feelings and tedious.

In 2020 I was given an opportunity to make a film. I was thrilled to produce this 49-minute story about daily pandemic existence. In the film each day I check-in, talk about current feelings, events and how I am managing. In the lockdown, I made still imagery about the pandemic, and I used those images, as well as the wealth of photography I had created hiking, biking, and kayaking in Oregon. The result of melding these elements, along with music and my voice is, “In The Now.”
