2020 Building Safety Month
Building Safety Month
May 1-31, 2020
May is Building Safety Month, and this year Building and Permit Services is celebrating electronically by sharing local messaging via social media. Weekly themes include disaster preparedness, drinking water safety, sustainable building practices, as well as highlighting the ways staff are using technology to continue service during COVID-19.
Week One | Disaster Preparedness | May 1–10, 2020:
- This Week’s Building Safety Month topic is disaster preparedness. Creating a plan will help keep your family safe if disaster strikes. EWEB’s Pledge to Prepare Campaign provides a 12-month blueprint for emergency preparedness. Week Two| Water Safety | May 11–17, 2020:
- Do you know where your water comes from? Our water begins its journey in the Cascade Mountains and is diverted through the Hayden Bridge Filtration Plant, where EWEB’s 24 pump stations keep it moving to homes and businesses throughout the service area’s more than 800 miles of transmission and distribution main lines.

Week Three | Resiliency. Sustainability. Innovation. | May 18–24, 2020:
- Week three of Building Safety Month focuses on resiliency, sustainability, and innovation. Local partner, BRING Recycling, is working to divert recyclable building materials from our landfills. For a donation less than the cost of demolition and disposal, BRING’s Construction Materials Recovery and Reuse Program was recently able to carefully deconstruct an unpermitted pole barn and recover most of the materials for reuse. 6.27 tons of material was recovered from the site.
