Bike Friendly Businesses

There are two programs to help recognize businesses as "Bike Friendly Businesses".

Travel-Oregon-Bike-Friendly-graphic-onlyThe first is part of Travel Oregon and is focused on service oriented businesses that are welcoming to people who ride bikes. The program serves as a recognition and training program aimed to:

  • Provide tips and tools for how businesses can be Bike Friendly
  • Help businesses understand the importance of Oregon’s growing bicycle tourism industry
  • Highlight businesses who commit to enhancing the Oregon biking experience for visitors and Oregonians

This program is supported by Travel Lane County and provides a great way for businesses to highlight what they are doing to support people on bikes. Once a business registers they can purchase a sign made specifically for the services they offer and then use the "Bike Friendly Business" materials to highlight what they are doing to promote and support people on bikes.

Here is a map of the current Bike Friendly Businesses in Lane County:

BikeFriendly_LAB_ImageThe second program is part of the League of American Bicyclists and allows employers to be recognized for their efforts to encourage a more welcoming atmosphere for bicycling employees, customers and the community. The application process is more involved than the Travel Oregon program but applicants receive valuable feedback and assistance in becoming more welcoming to bicycling, receive national recognition, and are awarded a ranking as a Bronze, Silver, Gold or Platinum level Bicycle Friendly Business. Awarded businesses are recognized in a national press release, through the League’s social media and on their interactive awards map.

In June 2019 the City of Eugene and the City of Springfield hosted two Bike Friendly Business events to help businesses register for the Travel Oregon "Bike Friendly Business" program. Through that event over a dozen businesses applied and were certified. We are making plans for 2020 to promote and encourage more businesses to become certified through both programs.
