Environmental Management System

Environmental Policy

The Wastewater Division is committed to continual improvement of its environmental performance, and to provide sound stewardship of the environment consistent with the Division’s mission.

To achieve the policy goal, the Wastewater Division will:

  1. Communicate and reinforce this policy to all persons working for or on behalf of the Division.
  2. Comply with regulatory compliance obligations.
  3. Consider environmental consequences and sustainability concepts in planning and decision making.
  4. Strive to prevent pollution and promote reduction, reuse, recycle, and proper disposal of waste.
  5. Strive to achieve environmental objectives.
  6. Provide leadership in environmental protection

ISO 14001 Registration

The Wastewater Division has an Environmental Management System (EMS) compliant with the ISO 14001:2015 international standard for Environmental Management Systems.

The Wastewater Division was the first ISO registered EMS for a public agency in the Pacific Northwest when they were first registered in 2001 against the previous 1996 ISO 14001:1996 standard, and was one of less than six ISO registered EMS’s for a public wastewater agency in the United States at that time.

The Wastewater has maintained their EMS and continues to be audited on a regular basis by an external auditor to ensure conformance with the ISO standard.
