Selected recruits will attend the Eugene Springfield Fire recruit academy. The Eugene Springfield Fire recruit academy is 14 weeks long and has a total of 560 hours.
The curriculum is a combination of classroom lectures, hands-on training on the drill field, EMS skill and protocol orientation, and fitness training.
Classroom lectures are supported by drills and activities on the drill field that reinforce the critical skills that are needed to successfully operate at emergency incidents. Our entire curriculum is focused on operating in the safest manner possible during emergency operations.
Fire recruits will have the opportunity to train and drill with on-duty Eugene Springfield Fire Department personnel and will receive NFPA Firefighter I certification upon graduation from the academy.
Recruits will also receive training in a variety of emergency disciplines including Rope Rescue, Water Rescue, Hazardous Materials Response, Aircraft Firefighting, and Wildland Firefighting.
