Borrowing, Returning and Renewing

Updated April 18, 2021

Borrowing: hold requests

  • Currently, hold requests are the primary way to borrow physical items at all library locations. This method makes it possible to maximize library services while minimizing the number of people in the buildings at the same time.
  • How to place, cancel or suspend hold requests

Borrowing: self-service

  •  Self-service is available at all locations to provide a borrowing option for those who don’t have easy access to place and pick up holds.
  • A small number of people at a time may enter to choose items from the shelves, for a limited amount of time each. Staff are available to answer questions and assist you if desired.
  • You may need to wait in line outside for your turn.
  • Note: at the Downtown Library, self-service has replaced the temporary counter service we offered in recent months.

Returning

Renewing

  • You will receive a notice by email or text message when due dates are coming up.
  • Loans are automatically renewed for another 21-day period, unless all renewals have been used, someone else has requested the item, or your account is expiring soon.
  • Renew items online  or call for staff assistance.
  • If an item is already overdue when you renew it, fines will be charged for the time between loans.
