Finished compostCompost iconThe Solid Waste and Green Building Program promotes composting at home and at commercial businesses. Home composting is recycling in its purest form. This process allows materials to go back into the earth -- the same place they originated.

We support community partners that provide education and technical assistance necessary to help schools and backyard composting enthusiasts get started in composting, or supplement their current composting efforts.

We support free Compost Demonstration Workshops at the River House Community Garden, 301 North Adams and the Grass Roots Garden at 1465 Coburg Rd. We encourage vermicomposting (composting with worms) at home and at work.

These pages describe the partnerships we promote within the community to improve waste reduction efforts in our wasteshed.  You’ll find program descriptions, tips for backyard and worm composting, bin plans, and other helpful resources.
