Volunteer Opportunities

Throughout the year, volunteers of all ages play a vital role in improving our parks and open space system and reaching out to community members.

Tree Stewards & NeighborWoods

NeighborWoods brings together neighbors, businesses, and local volunteer groups to plant and care for street trees. Over 7,000 street trees have been planted since the program was established in 1992. Help grow Eugene's urban forest. Organize a group project or plant a tree in the public right-of-way in front of your own home. The Tree Stewards Program trains community members to be able to assist the city in pruning and caring for young trees throughout the city. Projects usually take place on Saturdays once or twice a month. Contact Rick Olkowski at 682-4831.

Volunteers in Parks

Organizes volunteers to work on projects to enhance parks and natural areas. Improve Eugene’s parks by constructing trails; planting shrubs, flowers, and trees; cleaning up litter and debris; installing tables, benches and playground equipment; and removing invasive plants. One-time and ongoing park adoption projects are available. Contact Lorna Baldwin at 682-4845.

Stream Team

Offers volunteers the opportunity to restore, care for and learn more about the city’s waterways and natural areas. Improve water quality and fish and wildlife habitat by collecting seed, leading nature field trips, salvaging and monitoring native plants, and tending to native plants at the native plant nursery. Volunteer for a work party, adopt a waterway, or donate to the nursery. Contact Mike Bellmore at 682-4850.

Hendricks Park

Throughout most of the year, Hendricks Park utilizes volunteers to help remove non-native, invasive plants, restore habitat, and maintain trails and gardens in the park. Contact Ginny Alfriend at 682-5324.
