Rosetta Park
Location: Rosetta Ave. & Evergreen Dr.
Rosetta Park is a 1.1-acre neighborhood park located in Eugene’s River Road/Santa Clara neighborhood, one block west of River Road at the end of Rosetta Ave. Features include sidewalks, street trees, landscaping and wheelchair access, a small children’s play area with a play structure, merry-go-round, and see-saw, a picnic table, benches, drinking fountain, and a small informal turf field.
A beautiful, one-of-a-kind mosaic art bench was created and installed by local artist Mari Livie and park neighbors at the end of 2008.
Pesticide-free Park
The City of Eugene has designated a number of pesticide-free neighborhood parks located throughout the City’s park system, including Rosetta Park. The City of Eugene’s Pesticide-Free Parks Program is in partnership with the Northwest Coalition for Alternatives to Pesticides. For more information on the Pesticide-free Park program, visit the Pesticide-free Parks page.
Employee-driven innovations have resulted in the steady decrease of pesticide use over the past decade. City parks staff practice Integrated Pest Management (IPM) city-wide for the control of weeds and other pests. By using different techniques in combination, IPM emphasizes methods that are least toxic to the environment and most specific to a particular pest. For more information about the City's IPM program, visit the IPM page.
History
The Parks and Open Space Division purchased the property in 2001 using funds from the 1998 Parks and Open Space bond measure. The park development process, funded by Systems Development Charges, began in 2006 and was completed in 2008. See the pdf links under Related Documents for the workshop reports and concept plan.
Rosetta is the 5th neighborhood park to be developed in the River Road/Santa Clara area since 1998. The others are Bramblewood, Arrowhead, Awbrey, and Filbert Meadows. Additionally, four neighborhood park sites have been purchased and will be developed when funding is available, including Ferndale, Wendover, Terra Linda, and Lone Oak. Land for the Santa Clara Community Park site is being acquired in the vicinity of Madison Middle School.
