City of Eugene Volunteer Opportunities
The City of Eugene encourages involvement in government through volunteerism. City services are enhanced and improved because of citizens who generously share their time and talents. Volunteers enable the City to stretch tax dollars and improve the community in many ways. Our volunteer programs give you the opportunity to turn your special talents and abilities into positive action. Look through the list below for an opportunity that appeals to you and fits your interests, background and availability.
Adopt-a-Path
 |
The Adopt-a-Path Program provides community members an opportunity to help keep Eugene’s 41+ miles of non-motorized multi-use paths free of litter and vegetation so that they may be enjoyed and accessed by everyone. Neighborhood groups, businesses, schools, agencies, community service organizations or families may adopt sections of the multi-use path and commit to help maintain and improve the appearance of the paths at least four times a year. A sign recognizing your group or organization will be erected after two clean-ups. Tools may be provided by Public Works.

Community Emergency Response Team (CERT)
 |
The Community Emergency Response Team (CERT) Program educates people about disaster preparedness for hazards that may impact their area and trains them in basic disaster response skills, such as fire safety, light search and rescue, team organization, and disaster medical operations. Using the training learned in the classroom and during exercises, CERT volunteers can assist others in their neighborhood or workplace following an event when professional responders are not immediately available to help.

Neighborhood Associations
The City of Eugene has 21 formally recognized neighborhood associations. These groups are advisory bodies to the City and other boards and commissions on issues dealing with land use, transportation, public safety and other matters affecting neighborhood livability. The work of neighborhood associations is conducted entirely by citizen volunteers. Neighborhood associations engage hundreds of residents in volunteer activities in any given year through neighborhood cleanups, grant-funded improvement projects, and education and advocacy activities. Consider volunteering with your neighborhood association if you are interested in working to preserve the quality of life in your neighborhood.

Volunteers help improve our waterways by planting trees, removing trash, and removing invasive vegetation such as ivy, blackberry, and Scott's broom. Volunteers can also get involved in propagating native plants by collecting seed, salvaging native plants, and growing plants at the native plant nursery. Volunteer for a work party, adopt a waterway, or donate your time at the nursery.

| Tree Stewards and NeighborWoods
NeighborWoods brings together neighbors, businesses, and local volunteer groups to plant and care for street trees. Over 7,000 street trees have been planted since the program was established in 1992. Volunteers can help grow Eugene's urban forest by organizing a group project or planting a tree in the public right-of-way in front of their own home. The Tree Stewards Program trains community members to be able to assist the city in pruning and caring for young trees throughout the city. Projects usually take place on Saturdays once or twice a month.
