    The mission of the Human Rights Commission is to work so that everyone has the opportunity to share in the full benefits and responsibilities of living in Eugene.
    The City of Eugene values the dignity of all human beings, and through the HRC is committed to:

    - Ensuring that human rights are a central part of every City program
    - Respecting and reflecting cultural and individual diversity
    - Fostering mutual understanding
    - Promoting inclusiveness, justice and equity

    Human Rights Commission Standing Committees

    Please Note:  There are no Commission and Committee meetings in December.  Meetings will resume in January, 2010.

    Standing Committees

    All committees of the Human Rights Commission are made up of members of the commission, as well as other community members who are appointed by the commission. Following are descriptions of the work of each of the standing committees, as well as the monthly schedule of meetings of the Human Rights Commission, the Agenda Committee and the standing committees.

    Committee on Community Education and Outreach
    - Plans, conducts and co-sponsors educational programs and events that raise awareness of human rights issues and recognize the contributions of vulnerable communities 
    - Provides protected class members and other vulnerable communities with access to City programs and services
    - Encourages the City's outreach efforts in employment and community member involvement

    Accessibility PhotoCommittee on Accessibility
    - Monitors and reports on issues and events of concern to persons who may be denied, restricted, or limited in access to public services and resources, public or private accommodations, facilities, or services
    - Hears and, as appropriate, acts on community questions and complaints regarding accessibility
    - Raises public awareness of accessibility issues
    - Seeks to improve accessibility throughout Eugene

    Agenda Committee
    - Prepares the agenda and plans the meetings of the commission
    - Speaks for the commission on human rights issues as required
    - Provides membership services by orienting new members of the commission and committees
    - Recruits, trains and coordinates volunteers to assist with human rights program activities
    - Assists the commission concerning attendance and responsibilities
    - Provides a link among the commission and its committees
    - Prepares, if requested by the commission, recommendations on commission bylaws and
      other administrative matters
