The Second Annual EPD National Night Out Caravan is COMING!!

The Eugene Police Department is once again organizing a National Night Out Caravan designed to bring police and City Officials to neighborhoods across the community!

National Night Out is an annual event designed to strengthen communities by encouraging neighborhoods to engage in stronger relationships with each other and their local law enforcement partners.  The goal is to heighten crime-prevention awareness, build support and participation in local anti-crime programs, and most importantly, send a message that our neighborhoods are organized and fighting back.  It is also the perfect opportunity for neighbors to get to know each other better.  National Night Out occurs every year on the first Tuesday of August.  For more information on the national program visit NationalNightOut.org

In Eugene, EPD has organized the second annual National Night Out Caravan.  In an effort to support neighborhood National Night Out events.  The caravans will bring police and city officials to the events to answer questions, present crime prevention information, and foster positive relationships with the communities they serve.

To cover all participating neighborhoods, two caravans will travel to the various locations.  Take a look below to locate the event in your area and identify the time the caravan will be pulling in to speak with you!

TEAM OVERVIEW           WHY I JOINED
Sorry, these videos may not play correctly on Macs.

Watch the above videos to hear more about this exciting team from Volunteer Ron Reichenberg, and discover why he stepped up to the challenge!

The Seniors on Patrol is a team of volunteers who routinely assist the community addressing neighborhood crime and safety issues by observing and reporting suspicious activity, providing a highly visible and movle community policing function.  Team members serve as extra eyes, ears and helping hands, allowing officers to devote a greater amount of time to performing proactive law enforcement functions that require a sworn officer.

"Seniors on Patrol volunteers provide valuable service, both to our department and our community.  The team has such a diverse background in their previous careers and each member brings such great experience to the job.  Some of the tasks that Senior Patrol performs would not be done were it not for them, including vacation checks and random patrol of disabled parking spots.  Many on the team volunteer in additional assignments and many provide much more than the minimum hour commitment.  When the team is on duty, they provide extra eyes and ears for our Patrol officers and our citizens, making the city just a little safer for all.  It's such a great pleasure to work with volunteers who are service minded and give of their time and talents to help in whatever way they can."
-- Seniors on Patrol Team Supervisor Debbie Janecek

Members of the Seniors on Patrol Team staff patrol shifts seven days a week, however, there are no shifts scheduled in the evening.  Volunteers are asked to provide a minimum of one - four to five hour shift per week, and must commit to 18 months of service.

Follow the below link for additional information about the team, to print out an application, or to learn more about the many other volunteer opportunities within the Eugne Police Department.
