Eugene sizzles! Downtown’s Kesey Square, parks and bike bridges are hopping with live and DJ music, movies, dodgeball, a fashion show and happenings all around photography, skate competitions, bike safety checks … and so much more!

Details:

-All dates and detailed info at eugene-or.gov/SummerintheCity and EugeneAGoGo.com.

-All events are free.

-Cost to compete in the Skate Competitions is $5 (donated to Skate Eugene, Skaters for Eugene Skatepark); free to watch.

-Bring chairs to downtown; blankets, lawn chairs and picnics to the parks.

-No glass containers, alcohol, smoking, or pets.

-All movies will have subtitles for the hearing impaired.

-All events are subject to change or cancellation due to weather.

Bring your instrument, play with us and  ‘Get Your Chops Back’. That translates to getting your skills back!  We invite you to take this opportunity to participate in this collective music-making experience. ‘Get Your Chops Back’ is for artists who have not made music in a while, or as often as they would like, to engage, re-connect, and make music once again. Getting your chops back can be a foreboding, maybe a scary experience and no one starts out as good as they once were. It takes time and practice. The One More Time Marching Time will be there to help and direct. Re-connect, engage and make music again in a mistakes-allowed, stress-free and encouraging environment to just have fun!

This is your chance to dominate! Come and play the 2011 Champions, Team CAWOOD, and win the golden helmets! New this year: the Champions choose their favorite charity to donate the $200 cash prize. Rated  PG-13, 117 minutes. Story of Steve Prefontaine and the world of running, determination, and the golden era of Eugene’s Hayward Field in the 1970’s. A biographical film about the record breaking long distance runner, Steve Prefontaine, and his famous coach, Bill Bowerman, who later went on to become co-founder of Nike. Filmed in Eugene in 1996, this film not only showcases local heroes, it also depicts the beauty of the Willamette Valley, specifically Eugene. Starring Billy Crudup and Donald Sutherland, and produced by Tom Cruise with a four out five star rating, this is a can't-miss-movie! The film follows Prefontaine from his early youth in Oregon to the Munich Olympics until his untimely death. This film unwraps the relationships throughout his career while suiting his triumphs and tribulations as a world-class athlete.

Downtown: Be a Shutterbug!

Calling all photographers: photo shoot for beginning to professional photographers alike! Be a Shutterbug! invites you to gather downtown for an evening of photography with models, fire dancers, costumes and props. Models and dancers will be stationed at various places, changing locations and costumes throughout the event. Bring your camera to take photos or come and enjoy a summer evening downtown with photographers, models and live music! Lectures and classes will be offered throughout the week, as well as an opening artists' reception, sponsored by Eugene Storefront Art Project (ESAP). Be a Shutterbug! will incorporate local businesses and galleries to display photography. All participating photographers will have the opportunity to submit two photos for a 'People's Choice' award. The artists' reception will take place during the First Friday Artwalk on September 7 when the three cash prize winners will be announced. Additionally, the submitted photos will be projected in Kesey Square during the First Friday Artwalk on October 5. Cash prizes for 1st ($100), 2nd ($50), and 3rd ($25) place winners will be decided through jury selection.
