Our mission is to build community… The City’s Neighborhood Services Program helps Eugene residents connect with one another to create a sense of community, improve where they live, and work effectively with City government on policies, programs and initiatives that affect the livability of their neighborhood. We work with Eugene’s 21 neighborhood associations to create a healthy, vibrant and safe community.
We do that by… Encouraging Public Involvement Neighborhood Services provides funding and support for neighborhood association events and outreach; communicate with neighborhood leaders and residents about City initiatives and opportunities for public participation; foster collaborative efforts to improve service delivery; provide neighborhoods with information on proposed changes to their areas and providing tools to understand the planning and development processes.
Strengthening Neighborhood Associations Neighborhood Services works to sustain and build the capacity of neighborhood leaders and their organizations by providing resources to organize neighborhood events such as picnics, cleanups, community garage sales and other celebrations; provide training to develop skills for effective leadership and sustaining the work of neighborhood associations; providing technical support and guidance to maintain active neighborhood groups and ensure opportunities for diverse participation.
Funding Neighborhood Improvements Neighborhood Services provides matching grant funds to neighborhood groups for community improvement projects including, but not limited to, parks amenities, public art, tree plantings, and community events. Neighborhood matching grant projects have a lasting impact on neighborhoods and strengthen the connections between neighbors, busi¬nesses, community organizations and the City.
How you can get involved… Neighborhood associations are volunteer organizations that thrive and grow when everyone (that’s you!) is involved. Attend a neighborhood event or meeting; read the newsletter or check out your neighborhood website. See “Neighborhood Associations” (left side) to get more information on your neighborhood!
