Willamette Street Study
See Online Comment Form Below
Project Description:
City of Eugene staff and their consultant, Watershed Initiatives, are engaging the community in a strategy to study Willamette Street between 18th and 20th avenues. This study follows the adoption of the Central Area Transportation Study (CATS) in June, 2004, and will consider potential conversion of this section of Willamette Street to two-way operation. The strategy is to perform further study and analysis, and bring a project recommendation and proposal back to the Eugene City Council for a public hearing and approval.
During the CATS adoption process, business owners and neighbors expressed concern about the effects of two-way conversion of the two block section of Willamette Street (18th-20th). Council has indicated a strong preference for understanding the level of support the affected community has for such a conversion. A group of citizens representing various interests will meet to help staff understand the community's support, issues of concern, and ways that identified concerns might be addressed. A project recommendation and proposal will be brought back to the Eugene City Council for a public hearing and approval after the stakeholder group has made its recommendation.
First Public Meeting:
On January 10, 2007, City staff, neighborhood residents and local business and property owners met for a community meeting to introduce the Willamette Street Study. City staff and the project consultant outlined the process for formation of a stakeholder group, study and analysis, recommendation and proposal presentation to the City Council for their public hearing and approval. Comments and suggestions captured at the meeting will be included in a report on this website soon.
