Benefits of Acquiring Local Stream Corridors
Protecting water quality in high priority streams is the goal of the stream corridor acquisition program. Stream corridors provide valuable stormwater management benefits:
- Stabilize stream banks and regulate water temperature by streamside vegetation
- Store and convey runoff during storm events
- Protect native plant communities
- Protect aquatic habitat
- Provide opportunities for recreation and education
- Enhance filtration and replenish ground water
The City Council authorized staff to proceed with an enhanced stream corridor acquisition program on October 10, 2001 with modifications to the Stream Corridor Acquisition Study.
To date, 5 purchases have been made totaling 29.03 acres. The Priority Stream Corridors and Acquisition Sites map shows the location of the priority stream corridors including completed and pending acquisitions.
