Stormwater and Students

Lily with studentTeaching children about their role in our environment fosters good habits and attitudes that can last a lifetime. Two distinct stormwater curricula tied to state benchmarks are available from the City at no cost for teachers in Eugene school districts.

SPLASH! (Stormwater Pollution Learn and Share!) is a curriculum kit developed with local teachers for grade levels K-8. Units explore water and the effects of pollution in water systems, the water cycle, and local ecosystems. We also have a program mascot, Lily, a Pacific chorus frog who visits classrooms as part of our presentation program for younger students and is a regular contributor to our Stormwater Connections newsletter.

Salmon and the Ecosystem, available for grades 5-12, approaches water quality issues with emphasis on salmon and its critical role in our region’s ecosystem, economy and culture.

Both programs include handouts, activities and posters to cultivate learning and sharing inside and outside of the classroom.  For more information, call 541-682-8482, or e-mail Jeffrey.j.flowers@ci.eugene.or.us.
