Additional features of Amazon Park which add to it’s beauty, natural resource values, and educational opportunities include:
- Amazon Creek
- Ash woodland
- Open prairie areas
- Restored wetlands
- Endangered species preserve for Bradshaw’s lomatium
Two of these special park features have recently been given Native American names. Students involved with the South Eugene Environmental Club initiated the naming effort through their volunteer efforts helping to maintain wetland areas in the park. The students consulted with area Native American elders to determine appropriate names for the restored wetland located to the west of the playground and the ash grove on the west side of the creek.
The wetland is named Gawa-Ni, which translates into “place where you walk through wetlands”.
The ash grove is named Ma-Lik, which translates into “ash tree grove”.

Amazon Park Projects
As part of the Parks And Open Space bond measure approved in November 1998 by Eugene residents, funding is available for improvements at Amazon Park.
City of Eugene Parks Planning staff conducted a series of Community Workshops in the fall and winter of 2003 and spring of 2004 to involve Eugene residents in developing improvement plans for the park and resulting in a Concept Design and Priority Improvement Plan.
A master plan for Amazon Park was developed through a public process in 1994. The current planning process provides an opportunity to update the master plan and make revisions as necessary.
Amazon Park contains an area managed as a Dispersed Natural Area.
