Rosetta Park
Location: Rosetta Avenue and Evergreen Drive
Rosetta Park is a 1.1-acre neighborhood park located in Eugene’s River Road/Santa Clara neighborhood, one block west of River Road at the end of Rosetta Ave. Features include sidewalks, street trees, wheelchair access, and landscaping. It features a small children’s play area with a play structure, merry-go-round, and see-saw near a small informal turf field, as well as a picnic table, drinking fountain, and benches.
A beautiful, one-of-a-kind mosaic art bench was created and installed by local artist Mari Livie with help from park neighbors in 2008.
Pesticide-free Park
Rosetta Park is one of several neighborhood parks designated pesticide-free by the City of Eugene. Over the last decade, employee-driven innovations have resulted in the steady decrease of pesticide use. City parks staff practice Integrated Pest Management (IPM) for the control of weeds and other pests. By using different techniques in combination, IPM emphasizes methods that are least toxic to the environment and most specific to a particular pest. No registered pesticides will be used in a City of Eugene pesticide-free park during the calendar year of designation unless pesticide use is necessary to address a threat to public health or safety. If it becomes necessary to apply pesticides at a pesticide-free park, the site will be clearly posted before, during, and after the application to notify users of the situation to ensure that parks provide an inviting and safe place to be enjoyed by all. The City of Eugene’s Pesticide-Free Parks Program works in partnership with the Northwest Coalition for Alternatives to Pesticides.
History
The Parks and Open Space Division purchased the property that became Rosetta Park in 2001 using funds from the 1998 Parks and Open Space bond measure. The park development process, funded by park Systems Development Charges, began in 2006 and was completed in 2008.
