The Police Commission's new Work Plan was adopted by the City Council on July 13, 2009. The following four committees are part of the FY10 Work Plan:
The Policy Screening and Review Committee (PSRC) will receive EPD policies that are being revised, or newly created, and provide feedback on changes. In preparation for accreditation, the department is moving toward a new policy manual in a Lexipol format. Full committees formed by the commission may arise from the PSRC's work. This is a multi-year effort, thus work will continue into next fiscal year.
The Use of Force Committee is reviewing policies specifically related to force. Upon completion of their review, the committee will forward its recommendations to the full commission, and then a final recommendation will be sent to the Chief of Police.
The Public Outreach Committee's charge is to better engage the community with Police Commission activities and create a more transparent and trustworthy relationship with the department. Public forums, seminars, and educational events are some of the opportunities in which this committee may participate.
