An event unlike anything else in the country, the Eugene Police Department will be hosting the Second Annual Prevention Convention.  Designed to be the ultimate education in crime prevention for kids, teens and adults.  This free event will be held on October 17, 2009 at Sheldon High School.  With activities and classes for all ages, the Prevention Convention was set up to offer age appropriate crime prevention exhibits and seminars to individuals and families alike.

Adult participants are provided an opportunity to sit in on crime prevention workshops (some will be offered in Spanish), while kids and teens have programs specifically geared to their age and interests.  In addition, a host of vendors and booths as well as exhibitions by Eugene Police special units – including SWAT, bomb squad and more, will be in attendance to offer programs and products that contribute to everyone’s overall safety!

While adults and high schoolers attend break-out style workshops offered on a range of topics including recognizing sexual predators, property crime prevention, internet and financial safety, disaster preparedness and many others, teens - grades 5th through 8th will stay enthralled in the “Teen Extreme” classroom-style program offering exploration of topics like the Eugene Police Crime Lab (EPD’s version of CSI) and learn how to stay safe while using the internet and cell phones.  Children in Kindergarten through 4th grade are guided through a dozen stations for active learning – each child will receive a passport to get stamped as they move through the fun and educational stations and become eligible to receive prizes at the completion.

The 2009 Eugene Police Prevention Convention is brought to the community through the partnership with Eugene Area Radio Stations and the generous sponsorship of Oregon Community Credit Union.
